Look up! There’s a farm on the roof! Learn about all the natural processes that occur on a green roof farm. The Farm Explore workshop provides a great introduction to urban agriculture, allowing students to witness a sustainable, working farm in action. Students of all ages will engage in hands-on lessons about where food comes from, plant science, composting, honeybees, and chickens. While specific activities change from season to season, Farm Explore lessons are structured around a comprehensive overview of urban agriculture. Come visit our rooftop farms with your classroom or youth organization!

This workshop is designed for students to explore the fascinating world of honeybees and other essential native bees and pollinators. This unique field trip offers students an immersive experience, combining hands-on activities and expert insights into the vital role these creatures play in our ecosystem. With a chance to take a close sensory look at an old honeybee hive, and dive into the importance of all pollinators in our food system!

City Growers is excited to offer a new 90-minute field trip for grades 6–12, designed for groups of up to 30 students. This workshop includes a farm tour, a discussion on the history of natural dyeing, and a hands-on activity where students create naturally dyed fabric using farm-grown materials. Through this experience, students will explore the importance of sustainable practices and the impact of fast fashion and climate change. This Workshop will be offered at the Navy Yard Farm location ONLY for the time being. This workshop has a higher price due to extra materials & labor costs.

Nature is all around us—waiting to be explored! Gain a deeper understanding the many benefits of green spaces in the city. Rooftop farms provide a unique opportunity to witness biodiversity in action and serve as living examples of climate solutions. In this workshop, students will explore ecosystems, habitats, and the food chain, all through the lens of a thriving rooftop farm. For now, this program is exclusively offered at our Sunset Park farm location
